All Highline Schools in Seattle, Washington Closed Due to Cybersecurity Incident

All schools in the Highline district, which includes parts of Seattle, Washington, will remain closed on Tuesday, September 10th, due to a cybersecurity incident. The schools were also closed on Monday as the issue continues to be investigated.

Highline Public Schools, which serves the South King County area, including portions of Seattle, announced the closures through an update on their official website.

Highline officials have reported that they are still looking into the unauthorized access to their technology systems. Many critical systems remain offline. So far, there’s no evidence that personal information of staff, students, or families has been compromised, but the district has promised to alert anyone affected if that changes.

In addition to classes, all school-related activities, such as sports, meetings, and the planned vaccine clinic, have been canceled. The central office will remain open, and school administrators and central office staff are expected to report for work.

The district has provided staff with a link to expectations during a school closure, which they can use to answer any questions from families.

“We understand that canceling school is a major disruption for our families and staff,” a district spokesperson said. “However, the safety of our students is our highest priority.”
