Omroep Flevoland reported that the email addresses of more than 800 patients at the Flevo Hospital may have been exposed due to a data breach. According to the Almere hospital, these are patients from the gastrointestinal and liver diseases department.
The Almere hospital sent an email to a number of patients around 4:30 PM on Thursday with information about the use of a new app.
Normally email addresses are BCCed, so they are not visible to others. But this time it went wrong. The recipients could see in the email to whom it was sent.
Reported
The hospital writes on its website that it deeply regrets the data breach and that an investigation is being conducted into how this could have happened.
Measures are also being taken to ensure that it does not happen again and the Dutch Data Protection Authority will be informed. The hospital advises patients who have questions about the data breach to contact the hospital’s Data Protection Officer.
